I am a tattooer, fine artist, and educator. I tattoos in Indianapolis, IN, at Artistic Skin Designs in Broad Ripple. After my tattoo apprenticeship, I began tattooing professionally in 2001. I also pursued higher education and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a specialization in oil painting from the American Academy of Art in 2013. In 2016 I was awarded a Master of Fine Arts degree in studio arts from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
*In addition to tattooing; James is a gallery artist and author; and he also streams a weekly drawing show on the Reinventing the Tattoo Network called “Drawing For Tattooers.”

I start my tattoo designs on paper first followed by a shaded and color study of the piece. I will generally use a combination of stencils and freehand techniques to lay out a tattoo on the client’s skin. My sessions tend to be 6 - 10 hours of tattooing and not including preparation.

I love to do colorful and painterly tattoos. The styles I prefer: Portraiture, Illustrative, Bio-Organic/Biomechanical, and Surrealism.

The styles I do not prefer: Hand drawn script, American traditional, and Fine-line.
